Current WBO women's welterweight champion Mikaela Mayer will make a move to super-welterweight and take on the reigning WBA world champion Mary Spencer. With the recent retirement of Cecilia Braekhous, the WBC and WBO titles she once wore will now also be on the line for Spencer and Mayer, making the winner the 3-belt unified super welterweight world champion.
Mikaela Mayer was initially looking for a stay-busy bout while the negotiations with the other welterweight champion, Lauren Price(WBC, WBA, IBF) were underway. With the intention of gaining a little more size for the potential Price fight for undisputed welterweight status, a temporary move up to 154 lbs seemed like a good way to do it. Canadian world champion Mary Spencer had a world title, a date set already, and a will to take on any tough challenge that could be put in her way. Both women have consistently shown themselves to be willing to face anybody, especially if they had a name or a title. It was a perfect fit and negotiations were reported as being pleasantly expeditious.
Eye Of Tiger Promotions is based in Canada and they're becoming more well-known as a steady source of great cards. Top Rank Promotions needs no introduction, but is currently in between broadcast deals. With Top Rank having a classics channel on a few widely-used free tv apps already, it was decided that letting the card air on said channel was a great, albeit unconventional, way to make this great title-fight available to the public at-large. The card will be aired at 7:00pm CST on Thursday October 30th.
