Chris Colbert vs Omar Salcido breakdown
After a one week delay due to the threat of hurricane Milton, we return to ProBox TV Event Center in Plant City, FL to see former champion Chris Colbert face Omar Salcido in a 10 rounder on Wednesday Night Fights. This will be Colbert’s ProBox debut and the first fight since his KO loss in the rematch with Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela in December of ‘23. Salcido has been on Probox once before when he faced Jose Nunez. In that bout he came up short, but since then has picked up a wide decision win against Luis Coria, also in December of ‘23.
Colbert, 28, is looking to get back to form after his last 3 outings. He was dropped and then beaten on the cards by Hector Luis Garcia, picked up a controversial decision over Valenzuela, and as was mentioned before, got knocked out in the rematch. This match may not be “win or go home” but if he plans to make it back to the higher echelons of the sport, it is a must win.
Salcido is four years younger and boasts a higher knockout percentage than Colbert. He’s lost only one fight in his career, and will take this opportunity to raise his stock by beating a named opponent who’s career had looked very promising only a couple of years before.
ProBox matched this one well, which is par for the course, as it is winnable for both fighters and is an interesting clash of styles being a pure boxer in Colbert vs the more come forward style in Salcido.
