Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 Breakdown
A little less than 7 months have passed since Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn put on what is likely the most raucous and exciting boxing event of the year. On Saturday they meet once again in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to run it back.
This rematch was not one born of controversy. All three judges scored the first bout 116-114 for Eubank Jr, and the result was generally accepted as correct. This one, it would seem, is a contractual obligation, but also an attempt to catch lightning in a bottle once again and put on yet another wildly popular event full of excitement and fan-fair.
With Chris Eubank Jr being the bigger man, and appearing in the first half to be the better boxer, the intrigue for this one comes with the knowledge that, though victorious on the night, Eubank Jr appeared to have absolutely nothing left to give when the final bell rang. Benn wasn't exactly fresh and ready to go another few rounds either, but with the regenerative abilities that come with being the younger man, paired with the knowledge that he can hurt Eubank, one couldn't blame him for believing that with a few adjustments to the gameplan he could change the way things play out this go 'round.
It's difficult to imagine this event living up to the first one. That night in April, everything coalesced into the perfect evening to showcase not just what British boxing is all about, but how special the sport as a whole can be. That said, the main event is very capable of bringing a few surprises, and short of that, is almost inevitably going to be as action-packed and intriguing as the first.
