Raymond Muratalla vs Andy Cruz Breakdown
Andy Cruz takes a shot at the IBF lightweight title, held by Raymond Muratalla. While Muratalla is indeed younger than Cruz, he could still be considered a grizzled veteran in the pro game when compared to the 6-0 Cuban.
Muratalla won the interim version of the IBF title after defeating Zaur Abdullaev by wide unanimous decision in May of 2025 while in his home state, California. He was later elevated to full champion when Vasil Lomachenko officially retired, relinquishing the full title. Muratalla's most notable non-title win was over Tevin Farmer in July of 2024.
Andy Cruz was a highly decorated amateur, with the pinnacle of his accomplishment being a gold medal won in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Cruz became a professional in July of 2023, and since then has wowed audiences, and garnered praise for mixing the highly-skilled cuban style with action-packed entertainment making him a must watch.
Though undoubtedly showing promise in his 6 pro bouts, Andy Cruz has yet to face an opponent the calibre of Muratalla, an undefeated world champion with almost 3 times as many fights. Since the majority of the boxing public has their eyes on the shiny and new Andy Cruz, Muratalla has a chance to derail the promising Cuban, and get some shine of his own.
