Goldenboy Promotion's Alex Martin (17-3 6KO) called for a fight with former WBC Interim Lightweight Champion Ryan Garcia (21-0 18KO) via Instagram.
Martin (32-years-old) is in the prime of his career, winning four consecutive bouts since dropping to Lightweight. In his last fight, Martin looked outstanding - showing excellent footwork and an educated jab.
The Chicago native has expressed an interest in taking the next step in his career. His last three opponents had a combined record of 60-4 (two of them undefeated) and he certainly has the skills to compete for a world title; his footwork, head movement, and hand speed are outstanding.
This isn't the first time Martin or his team has called for a big fight. After his fight with Josec Ruiz, Martin's head coach, Joe Zagarino, said Martin is ready for some of the top names in the Lightweight division.
Garcia (23-years-old) has not competed since January of 2021 due to injury but remains one of the most naturally-talented prospects in boxing. His incredible fast-twitch muscles and natural power has earned him five-straight stoppage victories. Martin is now among a long list of fighters that have called for a fight with Garcia.
