UFC Flyweight Champion Alexa Grasso and UFC Strawweight Champion Zhang Weili have verbally agreed to face off at UFC 300. The two UFC champions exchanged a series of comments on Instagram, signaling their mutual interest in this potential super fight.
Zhang initiated the conversation with a comment under Grasso’s recent post, “Hi champion. Maybe the fans want to see us fight at UFC 300 .” Grasso responded warmly, “I admire you so much! And I’d love to defend my title with you. Would you make 125?
.” Zhang, then, made a post of her own captioned “Let’s Gooooo champion. I can go up to 125. (Dana White) Let‘s make it happen.”
If Dana White obliges and makes the fight happen, it will happen at UFC 300 which is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, at the T-Mobile Arena.
Alexa Grasso‘s last fight was a split draw where she retained her UFC Flyweight Championship over former champion Valentina Shevchenko (23-4, 8KO). Since she didn’t secure a victory to conclude her rivalry with Shevchenko, many fans are more interested in a rematch instead of a fight with Zhang.
Meanwhile, Zhang will likely defend her championship against the winner of the upcoming fight between Amanda Lemos (13-3-1, 8KO) and Tatiana Suarez (10-0, 2KO) scheduled for February 17th. Since that fight has serious title implications, it’s reasonable for Zhang to make a move up while the other Strawweights fight it out.
This potential match-up between Grasso and Zhang could produce one of the best fights in UFC history as both fighters are extremely versatile. Grasso, a fantastic boxer whose grappling improves by the day, will have her hands full with the incredibly strong Zhang who has one of the most well-rounded skillsets in the UFC.
